Black Friday in June, Joy Day in October: Joybuy is writing its own promo calendar
Seven months after launching in six European markets, JD.com's Joybuy has run a 16-day Summer Black Friday and a six-day Joy Day built on a €15-off-€99 basket offer, a mechanic only 6% of the promotions we recorded nearby used. With Brussels clearing JD's takeover of MediaMarkt's parent on 3 November, the group now heads into Singles Day, its home event, with two very different storefronts.

Joybuy, the European storefront of China's JD.com, has been open for seven months and has already run two shopping events of its own: a 16-day Summer Black Friday in June and a six-day Joy Day at the end of October. The October offer was €15 off any basket of €99 or more. On the homepages we read in Joybuy's markets that same week, only 6% of promotions were built on a fixed amount off; 69% were a percentage.
A newcomer that skipped the queue
Joybuy says it officially launched in March 2026 in six markets at once: the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Belgium and Luxembourg. Its launch announcement in Germany cited more than 60 warehouse and logistics sites in Europe. Its promise is about speed rather than price: order by 11am and the parcel arrives the same day, order by 11pm and it arrives the next day, where eligible. A JoyPlus membership, launched at €3.99 a month, adds free delivery with no minimum order.
This is Joybuy's first peak season in Europe, and so far it has not waited for anyone else's calendar.
Black Friday, moved to June
From 15 to 30 June, Joybuy ran a "Summer Black Friday" in all six markets, according to Retail Gazette. Shoppers could reserve coupons and bundles from 11 June, with selected bundles at up to 50% off. A Joybuy spokesperson told the paper: "Why wait until November to shop smarter?" The event needed no subscription, a clear contrast with Amazon's members-only Prime Day.
The length matters as much as the name. Sixteen days is longer than this year's Black Week, which runs for 11 days from 20 to 30 November in our event calendar.

Joybuy borrowed Europe's best-known sales brand and moved it five months early.
Joy Day: a basket offer, not a percentage
On 26 October, Lebensmittel Zeitung reported that Joybuy was expanding its discount campaigns in Europe, with a "Joy Day" from 26 to 31 October: hundreds of offers from leading brands in tech, household appliances, beauty and everyday essentials. Textilwirtschaft reported the headline mechanic, €15 off a basket of €99 or more, plus exclusive voucher bundles. Lebensmittel Zeitung described these as monthly promotions.
At the threshold, €15 off €99 is worth 15.2%. But it is presented as money, not as a percentage, and that sets it apart. Across the 107 distinct promotions we recorded on retailer homepages in the UK, Germany, France, the Netherlands and Belgium between 31 October and 3 November, 69% were a percentage off and 17% a named sale event. A fixed amount off or a voucher accounted for 6%.

A basket threshold does two jobs a percentage does not: it lifts the order value, and it is hard to compare with a competitor's "up to 40%". For a platform still building habits, both help.

Multi-year daily historyProSingles Day is JD's home event. Europe barely notices it
11 November is one of the biggest shopping days of the year in China, and JD.com is one of its largest players. In Europe it is still a footnote. In our 2025 press history for the UK, Germany, France and the Netherlands, Black Friday drew 727 retailer mentions and Singles Day 26: 28 Black Friday mentions for every Singles Day mention.
Germany is the exception. Singles Day took 12% of the combined coverage there, and the retailer named most often was MediaMarkt, with 8 of the 19 mentions. In the Netherlands it drew none.

This year the label is spreading. On 2 and 3 November we saw Singles Day on the homepages of Lidl in Germany and Shein in Belgium and the Netherlands. In the same five markets, Black Friday labels were already up at MediaMarkt Belgium, MediaMarkt Netherlands, Lidl Germany, E.Leclerc and John Lewis.
MediaMarkt joins the family
Joybuy no longer reaches Europe alone. JD.com secured 59.8% of CECONOMY, the parent of MediaMarkt and Saturn, in December 2025, according to the company's announcement. On 3 November 2026 the European Commission cleared the takeover, subject to conditions, GamesMarket reported. Ecommerce News has written that JD's delivery network could also serve MediaMarkt and Saturn orders.
That puts two very different storefronts under one owner, eight days before 11.11. MediaMarkt is a market leader in consumer electronics with a long Black Friday history, and its homepages in Belgium and the Netherlands showed a Black Friday label on every day from 31 October to 3 November. Joybuy is a challenger that invents its own events and leads with delivery speed and basket offers. Joybuy also plans a curated marketplace for selected third-party sellers from Europe and China in the second half of 2026, Ecommerce News reported in June.
What to watch
- 11 November: whether Joybuy brings JD's home event to its European homepages, and whether MediaMarkt, which led Germany's Singles Day coverage in 2025, pushes 11.11 harder this year.
- Black Week, from 20 November: whether Joybuy repeats a basket threshold or switches to the percentage claims that dominate the market.
- After closing: any shared delivery, membership or event between Joybuy and MediaMarkt would be the first sign of a combined JD strategy in European retail.
How we measured this
Dealmeteo reads the homepages of more than 150 retailers in 11 European markets every day and classifies each promotion by mechanic and event label. The mechanic shares cover distinct promotions on UK, German, French, Dutch and Belgian homepages from 31 October to 3 November 2026. Press figures count retailer mentions in news coverage of each event in 2025, from our radar. Joybuy's own events are as announced by Joybuy and reported by the publications cited.
